DRIVING AND MECHANICS

Drivers and Mechanics.
Uganda spends a lot of foreign currency for the purchase of vehicle, fuel, lubricants and spare parts. In order for the vehicles to operate efficiently, economically, and safety and render maximum services, it is necessary to deploy qualified drivers and mechanics. A serious shortage of qualified mechanics, drivers of vehicles, especially of trucks and buses, has existed in Uganda until recent years. Due to this shortage, government organizations and private operators have been forced to hire drivers with less than desirable qualifications. The result was damaging to both property and life.  The program started in 2011 with the objective of producing qualified drivers and mechanics whose performances would contribute to the safe and proper utilization of vehicles, reliable road transport activities, efficient and economical road transport services, and economical usage of fuel and lubricants, and improve the service life of vehicles.

Duties and responsibilities of KIVI Divers and Mechanics training center
  • Preparing objectives and guidance of training courses and curricular as needed.
  • Introducing new concepts and ideas of modern technology to driving education.
  • Introducing learners with parts and functions of motor vehicles.
  • Enabling mechanics to gain broad understanding and vision of mechanical and technical skills on different parts of vehicles.
  • And also enabling mechanics to carry out maintenance and overhauling of vehicles with the use of special tools supported by system procedures and usage of workshop manuals.

 Drivers Training Division
The primary purpose of the Driver's Training program is:-
1. To fully acquaint the trainees with modern driving knowledge both in theory and practice
2. To introduce the learner the parts and functions of motor vehicles and also to enable them to maintain the repair minor defects of different vehicles.
In the driving training division, trainees receive class room education, simulator training, and on the road driving training for different  grades of driving license.
One of the stated objectives of the Training Center is to produce qualified drivers whose performance would contribute to the promotion of traffic safety and proper utilization of vehicles. To produce such qualified drivers, the Center is modernizing its training systems. The modern road traffic complex designed to conduct on the road drivers training could be mentioned among those innovative training techniques implemented.
It is a good model road network which accommodates various types of modern urban & rural road structures and equipped with all modern road safety devices, such as international road signs, markings, traffic lights and signals which are essential for a typically modern driving complex. The complex has 4.6 Km asphalt roads and covers an area of 110,000 m2 which can accommodate 400 vehicles at a time.

  • Reinforces classroom instruction and provides driving under a variety of traffic conditions in a non-threatening environment.
  • Develops perceptual and neuromuscular skills
  • Provides a greater variety of driving experiences and increases knowledge about safe driving.

 3. ON THE ROAD TRAINING
This training is the actual vehicle driving training in our modern traffic complex. The courses is offered for all grade license applicants and is conducted by well trained trainers using new vehicles which are equipped with double controlling mechanisms.
